Medvedev Names Russian Navy, Air Force Heads on Last Kremlin Day

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev fired the head of the navy and named a new air force chief on his last full day in office.
Medvedev dismissed navy chief Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky and named Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov to the post, the Kremlin said in a statement today. Medvedev also appointed Viktor Bondarev head of the air force, replacing Alexander Zelin, who was fired last week, the Kremlin said in a separate statement.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is due to return to the presidency at an inauguration scheduled for tomorrow.
