Sonaecom, Telecom Italia: European Equity Market Preview

The following companies’ shares may have unusual moves in European (SXXP) trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Index rose 0.1 percent to 257.53. The Stoxx 50 Index (SX5P) increased less than 0.1 percent to 2,406.90. The Euro Stoxx 50 Index (SX5E), a benchmark measure for nations using the euro, declined 0.1 percent to 2,287.10.

Qiagen NV (QGEN) : The Dutch biotechnology company acquired Boston-based AmniSure International LLC. Qiagen said it expects AmniSure to add about $12 million in sales over the rest of 2012. The shares climbed 1.6 percent to 13.11 euros.

Sonaecom SGPS SA (SNC) : The owner of Portugal’s third- biggest mobile-phone operator said first-quarter profit rose 24 percent, as an 11 percent decline in operating costs made up for a 6.2 percent drop in revenue. The shares decreased 1.2 percent to 1.21 euros.

Telecom Italia SpA (TIT) : The Italian telecommunication company’s main investors, including Telefonica SA (TEF) , agreed on a 3.4 billion-euro financing package to help repay loans obtained in 2007 to buy stakes in the company. Telecom Italia’s shares gained 2.2 percent to 85 euro cents, while Telefonica’s shares climbed 0.1 percent to 10.68 euros.
