Sarkozy’s Party Seeks No Le Pen Alliance, Baroin Tells Figaro

French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s party, the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire, or UMP, isn’t seeking an alliance with the anti-euro Front National, led by Marine Le Pen, Finance Minister Francois Baroin told Le Figaro in an interview.

Le Pen took third place in the first round of elections on April 22, winning 17.9 percent. Sarkozy took 27.2 percent, trailing Socialist Francois Hollande, who took 28.6 percent. Hollande and Sarkozy go to the polls in a May 6 run-off.
