HSBC’s Geneva Bank Gave Employee Names to U.S., Le Temps Reports

HSBC Holdings Plc (HSBA)’s Swiss private bank supplied names of employees to the U.S. authorities as part of an investigation into alleged tax evasion by American clients, Le Temps reported, citing internal company e-mails.

The firm notified staff and created a telephone hotline for client advisers to check whether they are on the list, the Swiss newspaper said.

A Geneva-based spokesman for HSBC, who asked not to be identified, citing company policy, confirmed the bank sent a list of employee names to the U.S. authorities.
