Dan Girardi #5 and Brandon Prust #8 of the New York Rangers celebrate Girardi's second period goal against the Ottawa Senators in Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals during the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The New York Rangers defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1 in the decisive seventh game of their National Hockey League first-round playoff series.

It’s the first time in three visits to the postseason that the Rangers have reached the second round. They exited in the first round last year and in 2009.

The lineup for the second round will be completed tonight. The Florida Panthers host the New Jersey Devils in the seventh game of their series.

The Rangers will play the Washington Capitals in the second round.
