Taiwan Stocks: Catcher, Crystalwise, Sino-American Silicon, UMC

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 9:34 a.m. local time in Taipei. The benchmark Taiex Index lost 0.2 percent to 7,545.55.

Catcher Technology Co. (2474) (2474 TT) advanced 0.8 percent to NT$197.50. The company plans to give a dividend of NT$5 per share for 2011, it said in a statement. The casing maker gave a dividend of NT$3.68 per share for 2010.

Crystalwise Technology Inc. (4944) (4944 TT) surged 5.9 percent to NT$34.40, headed for the highest close since March 28. Sino- American Silicon Products Inc. (5484) (5483 TT) advanced 3.2 percent to NT$54.70. Sino-American’s unit Sino Sapphire and Crystalwise will merge, Sino-American said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.

United Microelectronics Corp. (2303) (2303 TT), the world’s second-largest contract maker of chips, gained 1.3 percent to NT$15.10, poised for the highest close since March 28. First- quarter net income fell 70 percent from a year earlier to NT$1.34 billion ($45 million), it said in a statement. Profit surpassed the NT$921 million average estimate of 14 analysts compiled by Bloomberg.
