The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Santiago.
Aguas Andinas SA (AGUAS/A) (AGUAS/A CC) rose 2.9 percent to a record 312.82 pesos. Chile’s largest water utility will invest about $200 million this year, Santiago-based newspaper Diario Financiero reported, citing statements made at the company’s annual shareholder meeting. An assistant at Aguas Andinas’ corporate communications office didn’t immediately answer a phone call and e-mail seeking comment.
E-CL SA (ECL) fell 0.9 percent to 1,329 pesos. Northern Chile’s largest power generator had its recommendation cut to the equivalent of sell from hold at Santiago-based brokerage IM Trust SA.
Empresas La Polar SA (LAPOLAR) fell 9.3 percent to 403.94 pesos, snapping a five-day winning streak during which the stock rose 48 percent. The department-store operator seeking to avert its second bankruptcy in 13 years said it had no explanation for yesterday’s 15 percent stock rally.
Santiago-based newspaper El Mercurio said today that investors are speculating that a strategic partner may offer to buy a stake in the company. An external press officer for La Polar said by phone that Chairman Cesar Barros wouldn’t comment on that report.
