Knicks Tie 76ers for 7th Place in NBA’s Eastern Conference

J.R. Smith came off the bench to score 23 points for the New York Knicks who moved into a tie for seventh place in the National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference with a 103-65 victory over the Washington Wizards.

The Knicks (31-28) are tied with the Philadelphia 76ers for seventh place, 14 games behind the Chicago Bulls. The top eight teams in the conference secure playoff positions.

Carmelo Anthony, Baron Davis and reserve Steve Novak each scored 18 for the Knicks, who had a 54-33 halftime advantage last night at Madison Square Garden in New York. Tyson Chandler had eight points and 15 rebounds.

Jordan Crawford had 17 points for the Wizards (14-45) and Kevin Seraphin contributed 12.

The 76ers lost 95-89 to the New Jersey Nets last night.
