Ukraine plantings of spring grains are about 5 percent ahead of last year, according to agriculture researcher UkrAgroConsult.
Plantings covered 2.46 million hectares (6.1 million acres) as of yesterday compared with 2.34 million hectares a year earlier, Kiev-based UkrAgroConsult said in an e-mailed statement today. The five-year average is 3.5 million hectares, it said.
The crops planted include 189,000 hectares of wheat, 1.847 million hectares of barley, 233,000 hectares of oats and some peas, the researcher said.
