Brazil Sugar-Cane Crop Seen at 602.2 Million Tons, Conab Says

Sugar-cane output in Brazil, the world’s largest grower, will increase to 602.2 million metric tons in the current harvest, the government said.

Output will rise from 571.4 million tons a year earlier, the Agriculture Ministry’s crop-forecasting agency, known as Conab, said today in an e-mailed report. The forecast is Conab’s first for the crop year that started March 1.

Sugar production will increase to 38.9 million tons from 36.9 million tons, while ethanol output will rise to 24 billion liters (6.3 gallons) from 22.9 billion liters, Conab said.
