Argentine Stocks: YPF, Banco Hipotecario, Transener Were Active

The following companies had unusual price changes in Argentine trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and share prices are as of the close in Buenos Aires.

The Merval Index fell 2.9 percent to 2,605.5 at the close in Buenos Aires. Markets were closed yesterday because of a local holiday.

YPF SA (YPFD) plunged 16 percent to 123.7 pesos. Argentina’s largest oil producer fell the most since February 2009 after Chubut province said it plans to revoke the company’s most productive field.

Banco Hipotecario SA (BHIP) fell 1.3 percent to 1.48 pesos. The Argentine lender was dropped from the benchmark Merval index, according to a March 30 statement from the Argentine Capital Markets Institute.

Cia de Transporte de Energia Electrica en Alta Tension Transener SA (TRAN AF) dropped 5.4 percent to 0.856 pesos, its lowest price since August 2009. Argentina’s largest power transmission company was dropped from the benchmark Merval (MERVAL) index.
