Joe Johnson’s 28 Points Lead Hawks to 100-90 Victory Over Knicks

Joe Johnson tallied 28 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 100-90 victory over the New York Knicks in a National Basketball Association contest.

The Hawks (31-22) are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, 11 games behind the Chicago Bulls who defeated Detroit 83-71 last night. The Knicks (26-26) hold the eighth and final playoff spot, 4½ games behind the Hawks and 1½ games ahead of the ninth-place Milwaukee Bucks, who beat Cleveland 121-84.

Josh Smith scored 23 points for the Hawks, who had a 52-40 halftime advantage on their home court at Philips Arena.

Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points and Iman Shumpert added 25 for the Knicks, who are playing without injured Amar’e Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin.

Mike Woodson, who coached the Hawks from 2004-10, has guided the Knicks to an 8-2 record since being named interim coach.
