Global Funds Buy Net 20.4 Billion Rupees of Indian Derivatives

Global investors bought a net 20.4 billion rupees ($397.4 million) of Indian equity derivatives on March 23, according to the National Stock Exchange.

Open interest, or the number of contracts outstanding in value terms, climbed 5.5 percent to 1.01 trillion rupees, or 34.8 percent of the gross market position, according to the exchange’s website. Open interest reached a record 1.6 trillion rupees on Sept. 21, 2010.

Foreign funds bought a net 94.6 million rupees of shares in the cash segment on March 23, according to preliminary data given by the bourse.
