Tukur, who’s from the northeastern Adamawa state, won as ten other candidates pulled out, Defense Minister Bello Haliru Mohammed said today at a party convention in Abuja, the country’s capital.
The PDP, formed in 1998 following the death of military ruler Sani Abacha, has been in power since 1999. The convention was also attended by Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan. The PDP said 3,185 delegates voted for Tukur, 12 voted against him and 51 votes were invalid.
