Iberia Express, the new domestic unit of International Consolidated Airlines Group SA’s Spanish arm, will operate 17 routes in the summer season and end the first year with 14 aircraft and 500 workers, it said today.
Iberia Express commences flights on March 25 with an initial four planes operating between Madrid, Palma de Majorca, Alicante, Malaga and Seville, accordin to a statement.
IAG formed the lower-cost unit to restore’s Iberia’s short- and medium-haul routes to profitability. Five of the planned routes will be to destinations beyond Spain and its islands.
