Toulouse Gunman Was Shot in Head in Gunfight, Prosecutor Says

The man suspected of murdering seven people in France, including three children and a teacher at a Jewish school, was shot in the head in a police raid after he was holed up in his Toulouse apartment for about 32 hours.

He jumped out of his first-floor apartment window in a hail of bullets during a gunfight with the police, Francois Molins, the Paris state prosecutor overseeing the case, said at a press conference today. The exchange of fire began after police failed to get Mohammed Merah, a 23-year-old Frenchman of Algerian descent, to give himself up, he said
