South Korea Equity Movers: Capro, Hynix Semiconductor, OCI

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in South Korea trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close of trading in Seoul.

The Kospi index fell 0.1 percent to 2,026.12.

Chipmakers: Hynix Semiconductor Inc. (000660) (000660 KS) rose 1.6 percent to 29,350 won. Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) (005930 KS) gained 1.3 percent to 1,258,000 won. The chipmakers were upgraded to “buy” from “outperform” at Daiwa Securities Group Inc., which said price increases in computer-memory chips may accelerate from the second quarter.

Capro Corp. (006380) (006380 KS), which makes caprolactam, a key raw material for nylon, dropped 4.9 percent to 24,150 won, the most since Dec. 19. Woori Investment & Securities Co. cut its share- price estimate to 34,000 won from 38,000 won, saying the company’s first-quarter earnings will fall short of consensus estimates.

Korean Air Lines Co. (003490) (003490 KS) dropped 3.5 percent to 51,800 won. Samsung Securities Co. yesterday cut its profit forecast on the carrier.

OCI Co. (010060) (010060 KS), South Korea’s biggest maker of polysilicon, retreated 3.3 percent to 237,500 won, the lowest close since Jan. 11. Polysilicon prices fell 5.8 percent from a week ago, PV Insights said in a report on its website.
