Chilean Stocks: Aguas Andinas, Cencosud, Endesa, IAM, Vapores

The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Santiago.

The Ipsa (IPSA) index rose 0.5 percent to 4,559.81. The MSCI Chile (MXCL) index advanced 0.8 percent to 2,668.33.

Aguas Andinas SA (AGUAS/A) (AGUAS/A CC) rose 1.2 percent to 292.04 pesos, the biggest increase in four weeks. Chile’s largest water utility posted profit of 111 billion pesos ($230 million) in 2011, up from 104 billion pesos in 2010, according to data posted on the website of Chile’s securities regulator.

Cencosud SA (CENCOSUD CC) advanced 0.8 percent to 3,138 pesos, its highest price in three months. Shareholders of Chile’s largest retailer by sales approved plans to sell 270 million new shares in Chile and abroad.

Cia. Sud Americana de Vapores SA (VAPORES CC), Latin America’s largest container shipping company, traded at 41.74 pesos after completing the spin off and listing of its ports logistics unit into Soc Matriz SAAM SA (SMSAAM) (SMSAAM CC), which began trading at 70 pesos and later fell to 62.71 pesos.

Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA (ENDESA CC) increased 0.9 percent to 853.7 pesos, its highest price since July. Chile’s largest power generator plans to merge several operating units to streamline its structure and will hand out 50 percent of 2011 profits in dividends instead of 55 percent, according to regulatory filings sent yesterday.

Inversiones Aguas Metropolitanas SA (IAM) advanced 1.4 percent to 793.32 pesos. The holding company that controls Aguas Andinas SA reported net income in 2011 of 54.9 billion pesos, up from 51 billion pesos in 2010, according to a regulatory filing sent yesterday.
