The benchmark Taiex Index added 0.3 percent to 7,959.34. It gained 0.8 percent this week, a seventh consecutive advance. The market will close for holidays on Feb. 27 and 28.
AU Optronics Corp. (2409) (2409 TT) surged 6.7 percent to NT$15.90. Some display panel prices climbed amid tight supply, the Central News Agency reported. President Paul Peng said yesterday flat panel prices remained stable.
Chinatrust Financial Holding Co. (2891) (2891 TT) gained 2.6 percent to NT$19.75, the biggest increase since Feb. 4. The company plans to sign a memorandum of agreement with China UnionPay, the company said in a stock-exchange statement yesterday.
Tatung Co. (2371) (2371 TT), an electrical and computer products maker, lost 2.6 percent to NT$9.79, the largest drop since Feb. 16. Its unit bought 105,000 square meters of land in Jiangsu, China for 215 million yuan ($34 million), according to a statement to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
