Google Hires Former U.S. Lawmaker Molinari for Policy Role

Google Inc. (GOOG), owner of the world’s largest search engine, said it hired former U.S. Representative Susan Molinari to lead its public policy advocacy in Washington and the Americas.

Molinari, 53, will be vice president of public policy and government relations for the Americas, according to an e-mailed statement. She replaces Alan Davidson who left as Google’s top Washington executive in November.

Molinari served five terms as a Republican from New York, from 1990 through 1997, according to the online Biographical Directory of the U.S. Congress. After leaving Congress, she co- anchored a news program for CBS Corp. and worked as a lobbyist with Bracewell & Giuliani, the Austin, Texas-based law firm.

The Obama administration is focusing on privacy standards for users of Web services including Mountain View, California- based Google’s search engine.
