Serbia, Austria, Croatia and France completed the Davis Cup quarterfinals lineup by sealing victories on the final day of first-round matches in the elite team competition in men’s tennis.

Serbia, playing at home without world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, took an unbeatable lead in the best-of-five contest when Janko Tipsarevic beat Michael Ryderstedt 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 in the first of yesterday’s two singles matches in Nis.

Defending champion Spain, record 32-time winner the U.S., the Czech Republic and Argentina secured last-eight berths two days ago by winning their doubles matches to take unbeatable 3-0 leads. Spain and the U.S. went on to secure 5-0 sweeps in their respective matchups with Kazakhstan and Switzerland.

The quarterfinals will take place April 6-8, with Spain hosting Austria, the U.S. traveling to France, Serbia visiting the Czech Republic and Argentina hosting Croatia.

Austria ousted Russia yesterday to set up a meeting with Spain, while 2005 champion Croatia sealed a 3-2 win in Japan when Ivo Karlovic beat Go Soeda in straight sets.

France advanced past Canada when sixth-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Frank Dancevic in straight sets to give the visiting team an unassailable 3-1 lead in Vancouver.
