Paul Pierce Passes Larry Bird as Second-Highest Scorer in Celtics History
Pierce hit a 3-pointer with 10 minutes, 23 seconds left in the third quarter at TD Garden in Boston last night to pass Bird’s 21,791 points. He ended the National Basketball Association game with 21,797 points. John Havlicek is the franchise’s leading scorer with 26,395 points.
Kevin Garnett contributed 22 points and Ray Allen added 17 to help the Celtics to their fifth consecutive victory.
Reggie Williams scored 21 for the Bobcats, who have lost 12 straight and 18 of their past 19 games.
The Celtics (14-10) are in second place in the Eastern Conference’s five-game Atlantic Division, 3 1/2 games behind the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bobcats (3-22) are fifth in the Southeast Division, 16 games behind the Miami Heat.
