Belarus’s Lukashenko Calls for Interest-Rate Cut, STV Says

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said the central bank should lower its benchmark refinancing rate, state-run STV reported, citing comments from a television interview.

The refinancing rate of the National Bank should gradually decrease, he said, the TV channel reported today on its website.

The central bank raised the refinancing rate by five percentage points to 45 percent Dec. 12, the highest in the world according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
