Chilean Stocks: Entel, Empresas Copec and Empresas La Polar

The following companies are having unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 12:24 p.m. in Santiago.

The Ipsa (IPSA) index rose 0.6 percent to 4,245.70. The MSCI Chile (MXCL) index gained 0.7 percent to 2,430.58.

Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones SA (ENTEL CC) declined 2 percent to 8,930.1 pesos. Chile’s second-largest mobile telephone operator fell the most among Ipsa members after reporting a 36 percent drop in fourth-quarter earnings after the close of trading yesterday.

Empresas Copec SA (COPEC) (COPEC CC) gained 1.5 percent to 7,310 pesos. Chile’s biggest pulp producer expects production capacity for the commodity used in paper to rise 20 percent by 2013, the Santiago-based company said in a presentation on its website.

Empresas La Polar SA (LAPOLAR) (LAPOLAR CC) rose a record 20 percent to 208 pesos. The Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Chile’s consumer protection agency to prevent the retailer from negotiating new credit terms with all clients that the company had previously modified unilaterally.
