Turk Telekom to Improve Internet Service to Homes, CEO Says
Turk Telekomunikasyon AS (TTKOM), Turkey’s biggest telephone company, will start faster Internet services to homes and offices through its fiber-optic network, Chief Executive Officer Gokhan Bozkurt said.
The operator will make a “significant investment” for the project, Bozkurt said at a news conference in Istanbul today. Turk Telekom, based in Ankara, will increase the number of homes and workplaces that have physical access to its fiber network to 3 million this year from 730,000 in 2011, he said. The company has 177,600 kilometers (110,380 miles) of fiber-optic network, most of it in Turkey.
Turk Telekom, which operates 85 percent of Turkey’s fiber network, said it already offers broadband wireless Internet services through the TTNet unit to 6.8 million subscribers. Bozkurt said that wireless Internet users will be offered a switch to fiber cable services that will be at speeds at least three times faster, without paying more.
The technology will be offered through Internet service providers, Bozkurt said.
