Florida International University football coach Mario Cristobal won’t succeed Greg Schiano at Rutgers University, the Newark Star-Ledger reported, citing people familar with the situation.

Cristobal, 41, had been close to being named coach at the New Brunswick, New Jersey-based school, where he was an assistant from 2001 to 2003, the newspaper reported earlier today.
