Russia to Resume Talks on Peace Treaty With Japan, Interfax Says

Russia will set a schedule for talks with Japan on a peace treaty after March 4 presidential elections, Interfax reported from Tokyo, citing Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Japan is ready to consider joint economic development of the Kuril Islands if this helps resolve the issue of ownership of the four islands disputed between the two countries, Interfax said, citing Lavrov’s Japanese counterpart Koichiro Gemba.
