Chilean Stocks: Embonor, Empresas La Polar, Molymet and Sonda

The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Santiago.

The Ipsa (IPSA) index closed little changed at 4,218.79. The MSCI Chile (MXCL) index gained 1.1 percent to 2,426.33.

Coca-Cola Embonor SA (EMBONOB) (EMBONOB CC) was little changed at 859.9 pesos after falling as much as 1.2 percent. Chile’s second-largest Coca-Cola bottler reported a 16 percent decline in annual profit.

Empresas La Polar SA (LAPOLAR) , the department store operator under bankruptcy protection, dropped 3.7 percent to 187.77 pesos, a record losing streak of 11 days. The Chilean government’s consumer protection agency lodged a Supreme Court appeal to prevent it from negotiating new credit terms with all clients that the company had previously modified unilaterally.

Molibdenos & Metales SA (MOLYMET CC), the world’s largest molybdenum processor, dropped 6.4 percent to 6,601.5 pesos, its biggest fall in five months. The local brokerage unit of Banco Santander SA sold today a package of almost 74,000 Molymet shares in Santiago, or 82 percent of the company’s traded volume today, according to data from the Santiago exchange. A Santander public relations official in Santiago didn’t respond to a phone call requesting comment on the sale.

Sonda SA (SONDA) rose 1.9 percent to 1,337.7 pesos, its fourth day of gains. Chile’s largest information technology and computer services provider plans to open a unit in Panama this year, El Mercurio wrote.
