Ruth Mazzoni, Standard Bank Debt Analyst, Dies at 46 From Cancer

Ruth Mazzoni, a credit analyst at Standard Bank Group Ltd. in New York, has died. She was 46.

She died Jan. 23 from breast cancer, Goolam Ballim, chief economist at the Johannesburg-based bank, said today in a phone interview.

Mazzoni joined Standard Bank in August 2006 from Deutsche Bank AG (DBK) to create and lead credit and securitization research across the Americas, the bank said today in an e-mailed statement.

“She was formidable in her analyses and prolific in influencing markets,” Ballim wrote in the statement. “Ruth’s clients regarded her immensely.”

Mazzoni was born Feb. 1, 1965, in Argentina. She split her time growing up between the agricultural port city of Rosario and New York. A graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, Mazzoni lived in Zimbabwe in her early 20s, she said in an interview last year.
