Defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt in four sets to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Djokovic of Serbia won 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in a match that finished at 1:04 a.m. Melbourne time. He’ll next meet fifth- seeded Spaniard David Ferrer, who yesterday routed Richard Gasquet of France, the No. 17 seed, 6-4, 6-4, 6-1.
Hewitt, who needed a wild-card entry from tournament organizers, had been seeking to reach the last eight at his home major for the first time since his run to the final in 2005.
