Notre Dame Hands Top-Ranked Syracuse First Loss of Season 67-58

Jack Cooley had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the University of Notre Dame, which handed top- ranked Syracuse University its season’s first loss, 67-58, in men’s college basketball.

Scott Martin had 13 points for the Fighting Irish (12-8) who had a 35-23 halftime advantage on their home court yesterday at the Joyce Center in South Bend, Indiana.

Notre Dame hit 50 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw line, while the Orange (20-1) hit 35 percent of their field goal attempts and 68 percent of their foul shots.

James Southerland scored 15 for Syracuse and Kris Joseph added 12.
