Thailand’s total automobile sales will rise 38.5 percent to 1.1 million units in 2012, according to Toyota Motor Corp. (7203)’s local unit.
Sales of all automakers in Thailand dropped 0.8 percent to 794,081 units in 2011 as floods disrupted production, Toyota said in a statement before a press conference in Bangkok.
Toyota’s own vehicle sales in Thailand will increase by 55 percent this year, and the company said it expects to export 370,000 vehicles from the Southeast Asian nation in 2012. The company plans to spend 8.2 billion baht to expand production in the country, Toyota said.
