Russia’s Sugar Output Reaches 4.9 Million Tons, Union Says

Russia’s sugar output from domestically-produced beets rose about 81 percent to 4.9 million metric tons from the start of the marketing year on Aug. 1 through Jan. 11, compared with a year earlier, the country’s Sugar Producers’ Union said.

A total of 41 facilities refined 38.4 million tons of beets to produce the sweetener, the union said today on its website. Output from beets was 2.7 million tons a year earlier, it said.
