Former Turkish Cypriot Leader Denktash Dies, Anatolia Reports

Former Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash died late yesterday at the age of 87 in a hospital in North Cyprus, Anatolia News Agency reported.

Denktash was taken to Yakindogu University hospital on Jan. 8 for dehydration due to diarrhea, the Ankara-based state news agency said.

Denktash, born on Jan. 27, 1924, served from 1983 until 2005 as president of the breakaway Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is recognized only by Turkey.
