Saudi Shiite Killed by Police in Oil-Rich Eastern Province

A Saudi Shiite was killed and one other was injured after being shot by police in the Shiite village of Awamiyah in the Qatif area of the oil-rich Eastern province, the Kingdom’s ministry of the interior said today.

The incident occurred yesterday when a group of Shiites attacked a police patrol in the village, the ministry said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.

The individual who died passed away in a hospital after the incident.
