Smith, 52, joined the firm this month as partner, Los Angeles-based Aurora said today in a statement. Before joining UBS in 2001, Smith was a managing director of Credit Suisse Group AG (CS) and a member of its restructuring and leveraged-finance groups.
The firm also promoted Michael Marino, 32, to partner at its private-equity unit and Ryan McCarthy, 35, to be a partner at its special-situations fund, Aurora Resurgence.
Marino, who joined Aurora in 2003, was previously a mergers adviser at Goldman Sachs & Co. He serves on the board of plastic-products maker Porex Corp. and has been on the boards of Douglas Dynamics Inc. and K&F Industries Inc. McCarthy is a former senior director at consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal Inc.
