SMU Defeats Pittsburgh 28-6 in College Football’s Compass Bowl

J.J. McDermott threw for one touchdown and ran for a second as Southern Methodist University beat the University of Pittsburgh 28-6 in college football’s Compass Bowl.

Rishad Wimbley ran for two scores for SMU, which jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

McDermott completed 16 of 25 passes for 240 yards, with a 50-yard touchdown toss to Darius Johnson, as the Mustangs finished their season with an 8-5 record.

Kevin Harper kicked two field goals for Pittsburgh (6-7). Keith Patterson served as interim coach for the Panthers after Todd Graham resigned last month to take over at Arizona State.
