Fernandez to Leave Argentina Hospital Today After Thyroid Cancer Operation

Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will be released from a hospital today after successfully undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer.

Fernandez, who began her second, four-year term on Dec. 10, is recovering without complications after surgeons removed her thyroid gland on Jan. 4, according to a statement published today on the president’s website. She will travel Olivos where she will remain on medical leave until Jan. 24, the statement said.
