No. 3 Duke Loses 78-73 as Temple Logs 1st Win Over Blue Devils Since 1996

Third-ranked Duke University fell 78- 73 to Temple University, which snapped a nine-game losing streak with its first win in 16 years against the Blue Devils in college basketball.

Khalif Wyatt led the Owls (10-3) with 22 points and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson added 17 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia last night. Anthony Lee, Ramone Moore and Aaron Brown each contributed 11 points as Temple recorded its fourth straight win.

Miles Plumlee came off the bench to score 17 points for the Blue Devils (12-2), who lost for the first time in six games. Plumlee’s brother Mason added 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Austin Rivers contributed 12 points.

The Owls -- who had lost nine straight times to Duke since they last beat the Blue Devils 59-58 on Jan. 25, 1996 -- had a 35-33 halftime lead.

Also last night, No. 9 Georgetown overcame a 17-point deficit to edge No. 20 Marquette 73-70 and log its 11th straight win.

Top-ranked Syracuse improved to 17-0 with an 87-73 victory over Providence, No. 15 Kansas defeated No. 22 Kansas State 67- 49 and 18th-ranked Murray State defeated Eastern Kentucky 76-67.
