Michigan Defeats Virginia Tech 23-20 in Overtime in Sugar Bowl Football

Brendan Gibbons kicked a 37-yard field goal in overtime to give the University of Michigan a 23- 20 win over Virginia Tech in college football’s Sugar Bowl.

Gibbons kicked three field goals and Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson connected twice with Junior Hemingway for touchdowns at the Superdome in New Orleans.

Robinson completed nine of 21 passing attempts for 117 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Hemingway scored on his two receptions for 63 yards.

Justin Myer had four field goals for the Hokies, including one from 25 yards with two seconds remaining to tie the score at 20-20 and force overtime.

Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas completed 19 passes for 214 yards and one interception, and also ran one yard for the Hokies’ sole touchdown.
