Iceland President Grimsson Says He Won’t Seek Re-Election Later This Year

Iceland President Olafur R. Grimsson said today he won’t seek re-election to a fifth term when his current mandate expires later this year.

Grimsson made his announcement in his nationally televised New Year’s speech. He said that once he’s left office he will have more freedom to address global climate change and speak about the importance of using clean energy.

He is currently in his fourth consecutive four-year term.
