Noda Says Japan Has Completed Cold Shutdown of Crippled Fukushima Reactors

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said the government and Tokyo Electric Power Co. have completed a cold shutdown of the Fukushima nuclear reactors crippled by the March 11 record earthquake and tsunami.

Speaking at his office in Tokyo, Noda said the nuclear accident, the world’s worst since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, had been contained.
