China Cotton Planting to Drop 8.2%, Cncotton Says

(Corrects second paragraph to show the decrease is by 6.48 million mu, not to that amount.)

Cotton acreage in China, the world’s largest consumer and importer, may fall by 8.2 percent in 2012 from this year, Cncotton.com said today on its website.

The acreage of the natural fiber may be 72.94 million mu (4.86 million hectares) next year, down by 6.48 million mu from 2011, the website said, citing a survey of cotton growers in 15 provinces and major producing counties by the end of November, it said. Cncotton.com is owned by China National Cotton Reserves Corp.
