Orders won by Thales Alenia Space SAS, the French-Italian satellite maker owned by Thales SA (HO) and Finmeccanica SpA, will total about 20 satellites this year, worth about 2 billion euros ($2.6 billion), La Tribune reported today, citing an interview with Reynald Seznec, the unit’s head.
That number compares with about 30 in 2010 and the slowdown is likely to continue in 2012, the newspaper cited Seznec as saying.
Thales Alenia Space begins today the rebuilding of its factory in Aquila, Italy, which was destroyed in a 2009 earthquake; the company is investing 42 million euros ($55 million) in the plant and continues to hire staff in France, Spain and Belgium, the newspaper said.
