Whirlpool Hires 1,100 in Brazil Following Tax Cut, Estado Says

Whirlpool Corp.’s (WHRL4) Brazilian unit will hire 1,100 factory workers on 120-day contracts to meet an expected first-quarter sales surge because of a tax cut on home appliances, O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper reported, citing Jose Drummond, the company’s president of Latin American operations.

Brazil’s government this month cut taxes on stoves, refrigerators and washing machines as part of a stimulus package.
