South Africa’s ANC Favors Chile’s Mining Policy, City Press Says

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress is leaning toward the partial nationalization of the mining industry, following an approach adopted by Chile, City Press reported, citing unidentified people.

The ANC last year commissioned three economists to study nationalizing the mining industry. The panel’s findings will be discussed by the party’s national executive committee on Jan. 30, the Johannesburg-based newspaper said, citing Enoch Godongwana, head of an ANC task force overseeing the study.
