Renault to Hire Formula One’s First Female Driver in 20 Years, AS Reports

The Lotus Renault Formula One team agreed to hire Maria de Villota as a reserve driver for next year’s championship, As newspaper reported, citing an interview with the 31-year-old Spaniard.
De Villota said “it’s just a question of signing the contract,” according to the newspaper. The last woman to drive at a Grand Prix weekend was Italy’s Giovanna Amati, who failed to qualify for three races for the Brabham team in 1992.
