BNP Paribas Ukraine Unit to Continue to Provide Retail Banking

AKIB UkrSibbank, a unit of BNP Paribas (BNP) SA, said it plans to continue developing retail banking in Ukraine, denying reports it planned to sell the business.

UkrSibbank, which is 85 percent owned by BNP and 15 percent by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, plans to offer additional consumer services, the bank said in e-mailed statement today.

UkrSibbank, based in Kiev, added that it will promote deposit services, consumer lending and corporate banking.

Ekonomicheskie Izvestia said on Nov. 28 that UkrSibbank planned to sell its retail operations in Ukraine.
