Yemeni Shiite Rebels Attack Sunni School, Killing 20, AFP Says

Twenty people were killed and 70 wounded when Yemeni Shiite rebels attacked a Sunni Islamist school near the northern city of Saada yesterday, Agence France Presse reported, citing an unidentified tribesperson.

The attack targeted the Dar al-Hadith religious school in Dammaj, a southern suburb of Saada, a Shiite stronghold, AFP said. It was preceded by a two-week blockade of the area, which prevented food supplies from getting to some 10,000 people, an unidentified Dar al-Hadith teacher said, according to AFP.

Dar al-Hadith students come from Yemen as well as other countries, and the school is considered by the Shiite Muslim Houthis as a center of Sunni propaganda in the region, AFP said.
