Unemployment in the U.K. may rise to as much as 9 percent next year, the Sunday Telegraph reported, citing estimates by the Ernst & Young ITEM Club.
The country’s Office for Budget Responsibility will likely increase its estimate for peak unemployment on Nov. 30, the newspaper said today. Companies have become more wary of hiring since summer, Andrew Goodwin, senior economic adviser to ITEM, said in the report.
